Creating Jobs and Promoting Economic Development
Good jobs are the anchors of strong families and healthy communities, and the best driver of economic growth in our communities. I believe that the first priority of state and local government must be promoting smart economic development that creates jobs for our residents and stability for our community. I know that the state can help drive this growth by supporting the right kind of private-sector job growth, and investing in education and job training.

Strengthening our Schools
I believe that strong schools make strong communities, and that every child deserves a quality public education. As our next State Representative, I will fight for strong schools with effective leadership, and will bring together parents, teachers, students and administrators to ensure our children have the resources they need to be successful.

Keeping our Neighborhoods Safe
|
I believe that all of our families and seniors should feel safe in their communities. The most effective path to safer streets is with good community-based policing, more outreach programs for at-risk youth, and active community involvement. As your next State Representative, I will engage local families, police, and other community leaders to combat the damage done to our neighborhoods in recent years and help keep our youth away from gangs and violence. |

Protecting Our Natural Environment
The scientific community has presented indisputable evidence of substantial climate change resulting from greenhouse gas emissions and industrial pollution. Elected leaders need to take charge on this issue, and I’m prepared to do so. I will work to ensure that all residents have the green space they need in their neighborhoods to enjoy recreational opportunities. I will work with job-training programs that put people to work weatherizing buildings and learning the new trades of a clean energy economy. Florida homeowners win, Florida workers win, and Florida manufacturers win. The result would be billions in energy savings, jobs across the State, and a healthier environment.

Improving Our Immigration System
We must recognize that the vast majority of immigrants come to the United States and to Florida in particular, for work and better opportunities for their families. I know that immigration is not going to stop, regardless of how punitive the law becomes. Immigration laws should center on providing accessible routes to citizenship and fair treatment of all who work in the U.S., regardless of citizenship status.

Protecting Our Seniors
Just as we have an obligation to our children, we also must care for those who came before us and provided for our own futures. Our senior citizen community has suffered egregious abuses in recent years. It will be one of my top priorities to ensure that our seniors are respected, cared for, and treated with dignity.

Women’s Issues
I’m a staunch advocate for women’s rights, including equal pay, fair treatment in hiring, and reproductive services. Women workers, on average, make 77 cents to every dollar made by male workers. Sexual harassment on the job persists throughout a variety of industries, and women’s access to health screenings and reproductive services deserves continued funding and advocacy.

Equal Rights
Full equality for all, regardless of gender or sexual orientation, is a basic matter of civil rights, and anything short of full equality is unacceptable. As State Representative I will push for comprehensive legislation to ensure all families in our community are treated equally, protected from discrimination, and respected.

Campaign Finance
Florida was supposed to be a democracy, with the people guiding our government. Now, a tiny fraction of wealthy Floridians finances our political campaigns, exerting an unhealthy influence on our lawmakers and government. No democracy can survive this kind of insidious corruption. I support maintaining current contribution limits, with much more stringent limits for contributions by political parties. In addition, I will keep an open mind and will support innovative measures to reduce the effectiveness of money in corrupting our politics. We face no greater challenge as a State.
